Training
Every peace officer in California must meet minimum training standards set by the State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Click here for a full list of training requirements and how we meet those requirements. We train our deputies to exceed minimum standards in drivers training, firearms, and use of force because these are critical perishable skills.
Drivers Training (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course)
Required: 4 hours every 2 years
Sheriff’s Office: 9 hours every 2 years
Firearms
Required: 4 hours every 2 years
Sheriff’s Office: 2 hours every quarter + 4 hours every 2 years
Use of Force (Defensive Tactics, Arrest & Control)
Required: 4 hours every 2 years
Sheriff’s Office: 2 hours every quarter + 4 hours every 2 years
