Assistant Sheriff Rich Sweeting

Assistant Sheriff Rich Sweeting is a 29-year veteran of law enforcement. Rich started his law enforcement career after graduating from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration. He has worked for the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office since January of 1990. His assignments have been a Patrol Deputy out of the Guerneville Substation, a Violent Crimes Detective, a Patrol Sergeant, a Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit Detective Sergeant and a Patrol Watch Commander. He was promoted to Captain in May of 2002 at which time he was assigned as the Administration Division Captain.

 

In September of 2006 he was promoted to Assistant Sheriff and currently commands the Law Enforcement Division


The Law Enforcement Division consists of many Bureaus and Units, all of which provide law enforcement services in one form or another. Assistant Sheriff Rich Sweeting commands this Division. This Division is overwhelming comprised of deputy sheriff's, but is supported by a support staff of Clerks, Secretaries and Community Services Officers.

Patrol Bureau:

  • Main Office and Substation Patrol
  • Helicopter Unit
  • Reserve Deputy Unit
  • Volunteers In Policing Unit
  • Many collateral specialty units
  • Marine Unit
  • Crime Prevention Unit
