Captain Matt McCaffrey

Captain Matt McCaffrey is a 26-year veteran of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department. Matt started his career as a Correctional Officer in the Main Jail and later became a Deputy Sheriff and worked out of the Sonoma Valley and Roseland Sub-Stations as well as the Main Office. Later as a detective, he worked in the Investigations Bureau in Narcotics for seven years. As a Patrol Sergeant he worked out of the Main Office and later supervised the Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Team (MAGNET). As a lieutenant he was assigned to the Main Office as a Watch Commander with collateral assignments including the managing of the Department’s Field Training Program, Tactical Team, MAGNET, Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving Unit, On-line Patrol Briefing Training Program and Crime Prevention Unit. In 2006 Matt was promoted to captain and assumed command of the Field Services Bureau. In 2009 Captain McCaffrey took over command of the Special Services Bureau where he currently serves.

 

Matt attended Santa Rosa Junior College and possesses Advanced, Supervisor and Management Certificates from the Peace Officers Standards and Training of California. In March of 2008 Captain McCaffrey graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia http://www.fbi.gov/hq/td/academy/na/na.htm

 

Dispatch Burea:
This Bureau is responsible for receiving all 911 calls and dispatching Sheriff's patrol units from the unincorporated area of Sonoma County, Additionally Dispatch services are provided to other county agencies and by contract to the Town of Windsor and the City of Sonoma.

 

Investigations Bureau:
The Sheriff's Department Investigation’s Bureau is where most felony crimes and other intricate matters are investigated. The investigation’s Bureau is managed by a lieutenant who has seven sergeants who report to him. Each of these sergeants supervises a team of detectives and civilian staff for of the following seven units: Property Crimes, Violent Crimes, Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault, Narcotics Task Force, Crime Scene Investigations, Coroner's Unit, and Criminal Intelligence.

 

Court Security Bureau:
The Sheriff’s Department provides bailiff and security services for all of Sonoma County’s 22 courtrooms. This service is funded through a contract with the State of California, which is the governmental entity that administrates local courts. 35 full time positions plus another two dozen part-time allotments are assigned to accomplish this mission.

Transportation Unit:
The Transportation Unit is responsible for all movements of inmates outside of the detention and court facilities. This includes inmate movements between detention facilities, routine medical care transports, and inmate transfers to other institutions, prisons, etc. Six Deputy Sheriffs along with a complement of part-time staff are assigned to inmate transportation duties.

Court Security and Transportation are supervised by two sergeants who report to a managing lieutenant.
